While I was busy exploring Legoland and cheering for the Padres, I gathered some intriguing insights from friends and colleagues about Cisco's focus on AI and its integration with NVIDIA chipsets. But what does it truly mean to "make AI work for you"? We'll unravel this mystery and discuss the overall vibe of the event, which seemed to lack its usual spark.
But that's not all. The real show-stopper came from HPE, with a groundbreaking announcement that could reshape the future of 5G technology. Just before Cisco Live, HPE revealed their integration of AthoNet into HPE Aruba networking, setting the stage for a revolution in IoT, Wi-Fi, and sensor components. Additionally, I touch on how much I miss Jussi and Jim Florwick. Don't miss this episode as we unpack these major developments and ponder what might have been missed at Cisco Live.
well, look at this, it's waves from the waves. So I am in southern california, I'm in beautiful san diego sitting on crystal pier. What a fantastic little hotel. I've been out for the entire week. I know this week was cisco live, but I was out of town. This is vacation week, so daughter goes off. We got to do something fun with the seven-year-old so we decided to come out to beautiful, sunny Southern California Except for that sunny part, either way. We're down here in San Diego, right north of San Diego, right north of Mission Bay, sitting on a pier. In where are we? We're Pacific Beach, right north of Ocean Beach Such a great area, but you know, 930 in the morning, pacific.
Speaker 1:It's been a hell of a week. Lots of stuff going on, and I didn't do waves on Tuesday or Wednesday, but I figured I would do waves from the waves. So here we are. There's a couple of things that happened this week, go figure. So I wanted to jump on real quick. Only take up, you know, 10-15 minutes.
Speaker 1:Talk about some of the things that are happening this week that you may have missed if you were at Cisco Live. So let's talk about Cisco Live real quick. It wasn't there this year. This is the first year in a number of years that I've missed it, but I don't want to say I didn't miss it, but I don't know what was missing. I was getting some interesting text messages from the show talking about it not really having the same vibe as before and and I don't know if that was just people trying to placate me or make me feel better about not being there. But, guys, I'm okay. First of all, I'm perfectly content with where I am. I did Legoland, went to a Padres game last night, lots of good times, but um, but I did get some weird text messages. I've never gotten those text messages before and I was wondering, you know, what we were going to see from the wireless industry, from Wi-Fi showing up at Cisco Live and, as far as I can tell, I didn't miss any big product announcements. There was nothing that blew up on my phone that said that there was something immediately happening that we needed to pay attention to, immediately happening, that we needed to pay attention to.
Speaker 1:And I guess in Chuck's speech where he talked about making AI work for you and the whole theme of the show being making AI work for you is pretty exciting from a Cisco perspective, but what the hell does that mean? What does that mean and I say that with all respect what's the point? We're making AI work for you. Okay, I get the investment, the NVIDIA chipsets being built into the fabric I built, you know. I get the idea of connecting devices that connect AI and making sure that that it's AI from start to finish, connected in the best way possible. I understand all that, but is there anything happening under the covers? You know it's Cisco. Is there anything happening? Ai RM fantastic. Anything happening under the covers? You know it's Cisco. Is there anything happening? Airm Fantastic, what Meraki is doing with. You know what we saw at mobility field day, where, where Mince popped up and talked about how you can do, you know, automated root cause analysis using the tools that are in there so cool.
Speaker 1:Where were those big announcements when? Why weren't more people talking about that at Cisco live? You know why wasn't that being brought to the forefront? Because, as that was happening, this announcement dropped on June 3rd a couple of days ago, three, four days ago, hpe snuck this little thing out. Right, this is pre-discovered. This is right before what's happening at Cisco Live happening at Cisco Live and HPE decides to announce their integration of AthoNet into HPE Aruba networking, which to me is such a huge deal. That's interesting because you've got the Aruba networking experience with Central, you've got Wi-Fi, you've got IoT components, you've got sensor components with UXI.
Speaker 1:All these things are happening and now they're saying this HPE 5G made by HPE, designed and built and put in part of that Athlonet integration, this is Aruba 5G for all intents and purposes. They say they're the only global enterprise infrastructure vendor to provide comprehensive Wi-Fi and private 5G solutions, basically under one umbrella. The move makes it simpler for enterprises to purchase, deploy and manage new private cellular enterprise. That's awesome. This is a huge move. This is the first time you've seen one of these groups that's all-encompassing with 5G and with Wi-Fi. How long before that's in a single dashboard, right?
Speaker 1:This new combo product is called Enterprise Private 5G. It sits within the Aruba Networking portfolio. It's pitched to enterprise and industrial customers, including via mobile operator channels. So now they're talking about carriers, they're talking about mobile network operators, they're talking about MSPs and partners pushing this private 5G solution. As it stands, management of the LTE 5G product remains separate from WLAN management in HP Aruba Networking Central. Although it will be integrated in time, they say it's unclear about current spectrum support. Hp said it features interoperability with shared spectrum for private enterprise use CBRS in the US and globally where regulatory frameworks allow. Beginning in 2025, enterprises can deploy private cellular in under 30 minutes with zero touch provisioning and configuration wizards that mask 3GPP cellular complexity. This is big. This is that convergence of everything coming together. This is, this is how do we just get all of the wirelesses under one pane of glass? This is the start of that. So, while Cisco is talking about making AI work for you and Cisco is out there talking about the you know the, the NVIDIA investment, you know investments with the video chips and all this, they're focusing on that core infrastructure, that route, that switch.
Speaker 1:I didn't see a lot coming from the wireless world and that's super frustrating, right, because I think that they have so much to offer. And it was just it was there were more posts about Elton John than there were posts about what. What about AIRM? And? And Florewick gave like and if you don't know, jim, he's such an incredible presenter and just a great guy all around gave an incredible presentation about what AIRM is doing on Cisco for Catalyst and for Meraki and how they're bridging that together and there's all these amazing things that Cisco can do, and what gets me is that it's not only that that that wasn't talked about, at least in a way that I call wind up, but also why did HPE choose this time to sneak this in? Why did they wait until Cisco was doing their huge event and then they'd like just leaked out? Oh, by the way, we're doing Athlonet, like I get it. Maybe they're trying to steal some of the thunder, but, dude, you can't like. Why would you do that? You're going up against, I mean, cisco's like it's just given the week. Man, you've got discover coming up. You know it's next week. Why not pop it off then? So I'm interested to see how that works out. Um, there'll probably be more information and more announcements about that. Uh, as HPE discover comes on, I think it's week after next, there's some good stuff. Next week, wba in Dallas is happening. That's going to be a really good show and a lot of the people that are stakeholders in this are going to be there. So expect a lot of chatter next week. A lot of people are going to be talking about this, trying to understand what's happening in the industry as a whole, so it's going to be really neat to see that Some other things that happened.
Speaker 1:Federated Wireless introduced a new network design tool. What? Where did that come from? Federated Wireless? I have my own thoughts about Federated Wireless. I'm just going to keep to myself. I have a vacation, though, so I should just be able to say whatever I want. They're nice people. They had a great founding group over there. We'll see what they do, what they bring to the table. They have a new product. Rcr Wireless is reporting this, that their new tool has been introduced.
Speaker 1:Let me see if I can open this up real quick and read a little bit more about this. As I'm talking to you, I hope you can hear the waves. It sounds pretty cool. I'm sitting on a pier. I'll give you a tour here. In a second Spectrum Management Company, federated Wireless has launched an adaptive planning tool to expedite and optimize cellular deployments and shared CBRS network. Blah, blah, blah, blah, blah. Adaptive Network Planner integrates with Spectrum Management, sas and AFC, as well as Enterprise Workflow Systems. It says whatever. That means no-transcript, lots of buzzwords, offers rapid, 24-7 support. It says the service revolutionizes shared spectrum management. Cool, look forward to seeing that. I would like a tour of that tool If someone from Federated happens to hear this, give me a tour.
Speaker 1:Love to hear what that thing's about. Pretty fascinating, you know. I know Google's got their network planner. That's pretty cool. What else is going on? I mean Juniper's AI in action happened this week Also. I'm telling you, man, we all got to get together and just make it Vegas Tech Week. Ai in action happened.
Speaker 1:And at AI in action, lots of tweets about UC standing up, talking about the integration between Juniper and the live view of the live spectrum view of what you can do with Hamina and Juniper at the same time. I know that Arista is supported. I know that Cisco is supported. I know that Hamina had a really big booth over this time. I think someone who had donuts Was it Hamina or Ekahau? Anyway, the planning guys bring the donuts. I love it. Really cool integrations happening there.

I think that's the thing that's on my mind Trying to disconnect and be on vacation and hang out with the fam, and every once in a while I'll check in Twitter while I'm waiting in line for a ride at Legoland or sitting in a carousel or whatever it is. These are the things that popped up for me.
Speaker 1:Share what happened with you during this week. Not really sure what's going on. Ubiquity had some announcements. Their phone support stuff is turned up. They've got their U7 Pearl wall plate. That's in there now. That's pretty cool. Who else? Who else we got? We got HPE. We got those guys Meter Keeping my mouth quiet. I want them to start making the announcements. They have so many cool things coming down. It's great to continue to see that. So lots of stuff happening overall, I think, in that private 4G, private 5G space, especially now that HP is getting in there.
Speaker 1:Here's my no bullshit thing with HPE. No bullshit, antonio, if you're listening, here's the deal, bro. First of all, thanks for the cappuccino. Here's what I would say. Hpe has done such a spectacular job of acquiring so many different components in the industry and when it comes time to stitch them together, they have not done a very good job of making that a seamless experience, and so my hope is that with the Juniper acquisition that Marvis is going to be that thread, especially dude, especially now that they're talking 5G right, especially that they're integrating this with HP equipment. This isn't them rebranding Bicel's equipment or them rebranding Salone equipment or whatever it is. This is them producing HPE 5G equipment Very cool, according to the press release, right? Be E5G equipment Very cool, according to the press release, right?
Speaker 1:I really hope that this acquisition pans out to be that fabric that connects all of them, because now that you've got Athlonet 5G and now that you've got UXI, and now that you've got the stuff with Rasa, you know in the way you know from a couple years back, and you've got these incredible like let's face it, incredible Wi-Fi 7 access points that they've produced, with all of these things together. Now all that's missing is that one orchestration piece that makes it easy for an administrator or a consumer or an engineer to look at, to use, to interface with, to interact with, to bring your network to life. That's that big missing piece, and I hope that that's part of the Marvis acquisition or, sorry, the Marvis acquisition, he says the Juniper acquisition, including Marvis. I hope that that's where that's coming from, because there's some great steps in the right direction. How is Cisco going to keep up? Well, let's think about this. Cisco's got to number one introduce private 4G, private 5G. They've got to bulk up their access point offering to include some of this advanced functionality. They're doing great. I mean dude, cisco Catalyst APs on Meraki what a cool step in the right direction. Let's add some more functionality to those APs. Let's take their IoT product right. Let's take that IoT product and smash it together with a Wi-Fi product. God, I've been wanting that to happen for years, ever since the acquisition. It would be really neat to see a Cisco AP that does all the things and then integrate that with 4G and 5G. Did they make that announcement at Cisco Live? If they did, I didn't see it. Anyway, that's what's on my mind as I'm on vacay Waves, with waves right behind me. I hope y'all are having a wonderful week.
